Tre canti di intercessione per Israele dalla Collezione di inni del Reverendo

John Wesley 1779

Il seguente prezioso documento si compone di tre inni originali scritti in inglese antico dal grande predicatore J. Wesley ( traduz. M.Peli).
I canti si inseriscono nel quadro profetico del ruolo che l'Inghilterra ebbe sia in ambito politico che spirituale dalla seconda metà del '700 fino ai primi del 1900.
Questi canti intercedono per la nascita della fede nel Messia Gesù nel cuore
degli ebrei, ma anche per il ritorno degli ebrei nella terra d'Israele in un
momento storico nel quale questo era ancora un sogno irrealizzabile.

 

Inno N. 450 “ Per gli ebrei ”

 

1. Messia, pieno di grazia,

redenti per mezzo di Te, noi invochiamo

la promessa fatta alla stirpe d’Abrahamo,

ad anime morte da secoli.

2. Le loro ossa, come del tutto seccatesi,

appaiono per tutta la valle:

troncata e perduta la loro ultima flebile speranza

di vedere il Tuo regno qui.

3. Apri i loro sepolcri, e porta fuori

gli esuli, a confessare che

Tu sei il loro Signore, il loro Dio e Re,

il loro vero Unto.

4. Per salvare la stirpe derelitta,

spiega il Tuo braccio glorioso!

E mostra al mondo una nazione generata,

una nazione in un giorno!

 

Inno N. 451 “ Romani 11:15-27 ”

 

1. Padre del fedele Abrahamo, ascolta

la nostra ardente supplica per il seme d’Abrahamo!

Essi meritano giustamente la più dolce preghiera

da parte nostra, adottati in vece loro,

che otteniamo misericordia attraverso la loro caduta,

e guadagniamo Cristo per mezzo della loro reiezione.

2. Ma hai Tu forse abbandonato definitivamente,

rigettato per sempre il Tuo proprio (popolo)?

Non inviterai Tu forse gli esuli a guardare

a Colui che trafissero, e a piangere, e a pregare?

Sì, Signore misericordioso, la Tua parola è data;

tutto Israele sarà salvato alla fine.

3. Vieni dunque, Tu grande Liberatore, vieni!

Rimuovi il velo dal cuore di Giacobbe;

riaccogli a casa il Tuo antico popolo!

Cosicché, affrettata dal Tuo estremo amore,

possa il mondo ottenere la loro riaccettazione

vita dai morti per tutta l’umanità.

 

Inno N. 452 “ Isaia 66:19-20 ”

 

1. Eccelso Dio d’amore,

innalza il segno d’attrazione

e convoca quelli che Tu approvi

come divini messaggeri;

dal seme prescelto d’Abrahamo

scegli i nuovi apostoli,

per spandere in isole e continenti

la notizia rivivificante i morti.

2. Loro, strappati dalla fiamma,

manda per ogni nazione,

a proclamare il vero Messia,

l’amico universale;

cosicché tutti il Dio sconosciuto

degli ebrei possano imparare ad adorare,

e possano vedere la Tua gloria nel Tuo Figlio,

finché il tempo non sarà più.

3. O, che il gruppo eletto

possa portare ora i loro fratelli,

e, radunati da ogni terra,

presentarsi al Re di Sion!

Di tutta l’antica stirpe

neanche uno sia lasciato indietro,

ma che ognuno, sospinto da grazia nascosta,

trovi la sua via per Canaan.

4. Noi sappiamo che deve accadere,

perché Dio ha pronunciato la parola:

tutto Israele confesserà il Salvatore,

ristabiliti alla loro prima condizione;

riedificata per Suo comando,

Gerusalemme risorgerà;

il suo tempio sul monte Moria si ergerà

di nuovo, e toccherà i cieli.

5. Fai dunque uscire i Tuoi servitori,

a chiamare a casa gli ebrei;

da est, ed ovest, e sud, e nord,

vengano tutti i peregrini;

dovunque in terre sconosciute

rimangano i profughi,

spingi ogni creatura ad aiutarli,

a raggiungere il Tuo monte santo.

6. (Come) un’offerta al loro Dio,

là fai che tutti loro siano visti,

cosparsa di acqua e di sangue,

in anima e corpo purificati;

assieme alle miriadi d’Israele suggellate,

fai che s’incontrino tutte le nazioni,

e mostra il mistero adempiuto,

la Tua famiglia completa!

1. MESSIAH, full of grace,

Redeemed by thee, we plead

The promise made to Abraham's race,

To souls for ages dead.

2. Their bones, as quite dried up,

Throughout the vale appear:

Cut off and lost their last faint hope

To see thy kingdom here.

3. Open their graves, and bring

The outcasts forth, to own

Thou art their Lord, their God and king,

Their true Anointed One.

4. To save the race forlorn,

Thy glorious arm display!

And show the world a nation born,

A nation in a day!

 

Hymn 451 FATHER of faithful Abraham, hear

6-8s. Romans xi. 15-27.

 

1. FATHER of faithful Abraham, hear

Our earnest suit for Abraham's seed!

Justly they claim the softest prayer

From us, adopted in their stead,

Who mercy through their fall obtain,

And Christ by their rejection gain.

2. But hast thou finally forsook,

For ever cast thy own away?

Wilt thou not bid the outcasts look

On him they pierced, and weep, and pray?

Yes, gracious Lord, thy word is passed;

All Israel shall be saved at last.

3. Come then, thou great Deliverer, come!

The veil from Jacob's heart remove;

Receive thy ancient people home!

That, quickened by thy dying love,

The world may their reception find

Life from the dead for all mankind.

 

Hymn 452 ALMIGHTY God of love ,

S.M. Isaiah lxvi. 19,20.

 

1. ALMIGHTY God of love,

Set up the attracting sign,

And summon whom thou dost approve

For messengers divine;

From favoured Abraham's seed

The new apostles choose,

In isles and continents to spread

The dead-reviving news.

2. Them, snatched out of the flame,

Through every nation send,

The true Messiah to proclaim,

The universal friend;

That all the God unknown

May learn of Jews to adore,

And see thy glory in thy Son,

Till time shall be no more.

3. O that the chosen band

Might now their brethren bring,

And, gathered out of every land,

Present to Zion's King!

Of all the ancient race

Not one be left behind,

But each, impelled by secret grace,

His way to Canaan find.

4. We know it must be done,

For God hath spoke the word:

All Israel shall the Saviour own,

To their first state restored;

Rebuilt by his command,
